Join the Rumpus

Hello Rockbridge Friends!

We are producing another original spectacle at Boxerwood to be performed October 14 -15, 2023 and welcome your help.

A WILD NOTION is an ecological call to action and hope, concerning three Rockbridge County youth who have forgotten how to dream. Dany, Iris and Maxine are called into the woods by forest emissaries to search for and reconnect with their wildness, disrupted by the elements, but later reunited in a big ole rumpus dance with ancient woodfolk and critters. This intergenerational show will involve more choral and folk music and more dialogue than our 2008/10 shows, but plenty of dancing and puppets!

I am inviting you, and any adults or older students you know, as interested puppeteers or performers for an initial INFO MEETING at the Boxerwood Roost (next to the Lodge) on Sunday, June 4 at 10:30 am -12 pm. This gathering is a chance to pick up a script and talk about adult performance roles and ways to get involved over the summer. No commitment is necessary yet, but I want to get people engaged early with ideas, checking out the puppets and making schedules!

Time Commitments I know now:
  • Making Cool Stuff at the Boxerwood ROOST
    • All summer, T/W/Th afternoons approx 2 - 6:30 to prep for Spectacle Youth Camps: July 10-14, July 17-21 9 am -1 pm.
  • Voiceover roles
    • Rehearsals will begin mid-July
  • Puppeteers and Dancers
    • Schedules to be created for mid-August through early Oct, with flexible evenings
  • Dress rehearsal weekend (required)!
    • Sat. Oct. 7, 12:30 - 4:30pm
  • Performances
    • Sat / Sun Oct 14 & 15 at 3pm, bands start for arriving audiences around 1:30!

PLEASE spread the word and send me any names of adults who might be interested in any level of involvement (performing leads, ensemble roles or making). Lots of hands and bodies will be welcome!

If you cannot make this meeting, I will be scheduling a few early evening rehearsals mid July somewhere between July 10-21.
