Coreworks Year One

Happy first birthday, COREworks!
February 2023

This month marks one year since the debut of COREworks. After two years of research and planning, Boxerwood launched COREworks and its earth care mission last February. The goal of COREworksis to help people  reduce their carbon emissions in ways that also benefit the communities where we live. We’ve had all kinds of successes already.

Here are some of its Year 1 successes by the numbers:

  • 3 completed carbon-reducing or sequestering projects in Rockbridge;
  • 123 verified offsets generated by these projects listed on the COREworks marketplace;
  • 21 MTC02 (equivalent) offset transactions made by individuals or institutions to shrink their carbon footprint;
  • 650+ trees planted by school children and volunteers in COREworks-vetted projects; and
  • 1,500+ local folks engaged in climate change conversation, action, and service through COREworks, our program innovation.

Here are our goals for Year 2:

  • Increase marketing so we can convert more of our offset stockpile into cash, thereby funding more carbon-reduction projects more quickly;
  • Launch COREworks-funded composting projects as well as additional tree-planting and solarizing projects;
  • Pilot our ancillary  “Decarbonize Now” household coaching service; and
  • Secure funding to support back-office operations so COREworks is not a drain on Boxerwood (right now we direct 100% of all proceeds from the marketplace back into projects).
