OUTDOOR Play & Learning Season (PALS)

This is a special fall after school program at Boxerwood. It is designed for 12 K-2 children ages. It will run for 8 sessions.

PALS children will engage in nature-based play and learning that helps develop confidence, self-esteem, empathy, and connection to the natural world. Designed as a complement to formal learning, this enrichment program also incorporates literacy, mathematics, science, and art while leaving time for unstructured free play. Children will explore a different topic each week, guided by lead educators Jess Sullivan and an assistant. Children will bring their own snack and back-up clothes. Program DETAILS

8 week outdoor enrichment program
September 24 - November 19th
Meets Fridays (3pm – 5:15 pm) at Boxerwood.
Enrollment is for the entire 8-session series (no drop-ins).

Children will spend all their time outdoors, with the exception of extreme weather and bathroom breaks.
Masks must be worn inside the lodge when using the rest room or washing hands.
Appropriate clothing and an outdoor mindset is essential.

CONSIDERATIONS in COVID TIMES

Detailed, written information about family, child, and staff safety policies and procedures will be shared with enrolled families. In brief, staff and PALS children must wear masks whenever indoors, and in specific outdoor situations at the discretion of staff (and family). There will be daily wellness, sanitizing protocols, physical distancing, and scheduled hand washing throughout the program day.

FEES & ENROLLMENT

Total program fee is $175 per child. Boxerwood members receive a $15 discount in program fees ($160), but no special preference in the enrollment process. Fees may be paid in full by September 17th. Need-based scholarships are available.

Fees are non-refundable except in the case that Boxerwood itself suspends or cancels Outdoor PALS. In that case, Boxerwood will refund fees on a pro-rated basis at the end of the fall term, minus 5% for fixed administrative costs.

Please note: Enrollment is not our usual “first come, first served” process. For a variety of reasons, Boxerwood needs to build the PALS cohorts based on a number of factors including dates of availability, need, and child’s age. Our goal is to create two robust PALS cohorts reflecting diversity in gender, race, and family background. Thank you for your support!
