Shester, Datz & Newhall Trio + Fundraiser for Scott Mason

The members of the Shester, Datz, and Newhall Bluegrass Trio (Blake Shester, Burr Datz, and Dan Newhall) have performed together for many public and private events since 2011. They play an entertaining mix of traditional, contemporary, and progressive Bluegrass with a high lonesome three-part harmony that will melt your face. Blake Shester has been playing banjo since he was fifteen years old and has performed in a variety of bands in California, Tennessee, and Virginia. Dan Newhall lives in Zack, Va. and has been a bass player since 1964, playing and singing bluegrass, old-time, folk, and country music, currently with Datz Us Ramblers, New Corner Grocery, Greenhouse, and others. Burr Datz has been learning guitar since 1961, performing in a variety of bands since then in a variety of musical genres: blues, country, old-time, and bluegrass. Currently he performs with the Datz Us Ramblers and Greenhouse. They are delighted to be returning to Boxerwood’s Music in the Garden Series.

Boxerwood is holding a special Music in the Garden benefit concert on June 10th. All entrance fees and donations (excluding the hat passed for the band) will be donated to Scott Mason, Boxerwood’s gardener and all-around handyman extraordinaire, to help cover medical expenses. Scott, who has worked at Boxerwood for eight years, began undergoing cancer treatment in March, which has impacted his ability to work. Friends, volunteers, and the broader community are all invited to come on out, enjoy a night of bluegrass music with the Shester, Datz, and Newhall trio, and help us send Scott a healing message of hope, love, and support.
