What a delight it has been this summer to hear music from the outdoor stage at Boxerwood again, have family picnics spread across our field, and connect with friends in the outdoors! In spite of 2 rain-outs this summer, we have had a record-breaking Music in the Garden series this year, in terms of attendees, new memberships, and new sponsors.

We are happy to announce that we are extending the season into September with two make-up concerts. On September 3rd, Boxerwood will welcome one of the newest bands in the Rockbridge music scene to its Meadow stage, Little Marvin and The Martians. Though this is their first time to perform at Music in the Garden, you’ll likely recognize some of the band members when they have played with other bands. Little Marvin & The Martians feature Kimberly Northrup on Vocals, Stacy Stevens on Guitar/Vocals, Jeff Mason on Bass/Vocals, and Jeff Sinnett on Drums. The band will perform a mix of classic rock, 80’s rock, Pop, New Country and will guarantee to get you out of your seat and dancing!

On September 10th, we welcome a community favorite: Shester, Datz, and Newhall. They play an entertaining mix of traditional, contemporary, and progressive Bluegrass with a lovely high lonesome three-part harmony. Blake Shester has been playing banjo since he was fifteen years old and has performed in a variety of bands in California, Tennessee, and Virginia. Dan Newhall lives in Zack, Va. and has been a bass player since 1964, playing and singing bluegrass, old-time, folk, and country music, currently with Datz Us Ramblers, New Corner Grocery, Greenhouse, and others.  Burr Datz has been learning guitar since 1961, performing in a variety of bands since then in a variety of musical genres: blues, country, old-time, and bluegrass. Currently he performs with the Datz Us Ramblers, Caravan of Fools, and Greenhouse. They are delighted to be returning to Boxerwood’s Music in the Garden Series.

Please note that there will be no food trucks for these final concerts, so bring your own best spread, and don’t forget to pack everything out. Gates open at 6:00 pm on concert nights.  We look forward to seeing you!

The full schedule of dates and bands is available on our EVENTS page, and announcements on the Boxerwood Facebook and Instagram pages.  Also a big  shout out to our very generous sponsors for the 2021 season. Gold Level:  Earth Fire Spirit Pottery, Kendal at Lexington, Virginia Technology Services (VTS); Green Level: Cornerstone Bank, Just Games, Mariner Media, LexMex Tacos, and Walkabout Outfitters; Orange Level: BARC Connects.
