Whoo’s Lurking in our Woods?

According to organizers, new birders participating in a recent Rockbridge Bird Club’s event at Boxerwood identified 32 species in our varied habitats, not counting that napping owl.

Species seen on November 14 included Canada goose, mourning dove, black vulture, turkey vulture, Cooper’s hawk, red-shouldered hawk, yellow-bellied sapsucker, downy woodpecker, northern flicker, blue jay, American crow, Carolina chickadee, tufted titmouse, golden-crowned kinglet, white-breated nuthatch, brown creeper, Carolina wren, brown thrasher, northern mockingbird, eastern bluebird, hermit thrush, American robin, house finch, American goldfinch, chipping sparrow, field sparrow, dark-eyed junco, song sparrow, yellow-rumped warbler, northern cardinal and... in from the Great White North for its annual Virginia winter-over--the ever-hardy white-throated sparrow.

P.S. Special appreciation to the Bird Club (and partner Rockbridge Farmers Co-op) for the great success of its annual bird seed sale which brought benefits not only to backyard birds, but to Boxerwood as well. Thank you everyone who helped with this benefit and/or purchased seeds.
