We’re Expanding!

Boxerwood hired four wonderful new part-time instructors this fall, more than doubling our teaching team. Driving the change was increased demand for nature-based programming as well as several new grant-funded projects. We are thrilled by the energy, talent, and heart our new colleagues bring to their work and can’t wait for you to meet them.

Joining the Boxerwood crew are:

Caroline Coons - Active in our community as a yoga instructor, former camp director, and sustainability champion, Caroline is sharing all these interests with us--and more. She is wearing several Boxerwood hats: early childhood educator, afterschool program instructor, and (yay!) 2023 summer camp director. Married and the mother of two sons, Caroline has spent many days at Boxerwood over the years and now we’ve made it official.

Madeline Fuentes - An honors graduate of University of Vermont, Madeline has a passion for place-based learning and living, permaculture, food systems, and connecting children to nature. Also a former summer AmeriCorps member, Madeline is helping us prepare for an upcoming AmeriCorps initiative as well as teaching in our seasonal and afterschool programs. Cool fact: Madeline herself grew up in Lexington and is a Boxerwood alum. We’ve come full circle.

Brittany Klinger - Most recently from Hawaii but originally from West Virginia, Brittany has deep interest in merging her training as a professional licensed counselor with nature-inspired growth and healing. She’ll be teaching part-time in both our school-day and after school programs while also pursuing licensure for practicing her profession in Virginia. We’ve already discovered another Brittany talent: nature photography.

Ginny Johnson - Also a WV native, Ginny majored in geology and environmental studies at WLU, graduating in 2020. She has particular passion for composting and sustainability. She will be putting all these interests to good use not only as a Boxerwood educator but also as our 2021-22 COREworks Fellow. In this role, Ginny is the lead researcher for our carbon offset marketplace (still in development). Other Ginny skills: excel sheets and scuba-diving.
