Happening Now: Annual Seed & Suet Benefit Sale

We’re delighted to announce the much anticipated Bird Seed and Suet Sale is now underway! Sponsored by the Rockbridge Bird Club with co-sponsor Rockbridge Farmers Co-op, this wintertime tradition benefits both birds and Boxerwood. Product information and order forms can be found here.  Prepaid orders may be placed online or mailed to Boxerwood. Orders must be received no later than Friday, October 23.

Included in the sale are a variety of quality seeds, including black-oil sunflower, nyjer, and gourmet blends. Suet cakes are also being sold by the dozen.

Need another feeder to hold seed for all the birds you’re going to attract to your yard? This year’s offerings include a sturdy tube feeder made from post-consumer recycled plastic with metal ports and perches.

Purchases will be available for pick-up at the Rockbridge Farmers Co-op on Wednesday, November 11 from 10am to noon and from 4:00-5:30pm. For everyone’s safety, volunteers wearing masks will place orders in customers’ vehicles.

The Rockbridge Bird Club also encourages people who feed birds to participate in Project FeederWatch, a winter-long survey of birds that visit feeders at backyards, nature centers, and locations throughout North America. The program is run by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Bird Studies Canada and open to all. Participants count the birds they see at their feeders and send the counts to Cornell, where scientists use them to track long-term trends in bird distribution and abundance. For more information, visit www.feederwatch.org.
