Partner in the Picture: Our Many Camp Partners

Not all families are in the position to send their children to a Boxerwood-based camp, even with scholarship help. There are transportation issues, work schedules, food insecurity, and more. To better serve the whole community, we've expanded our ability to provide more kinds of camps for more kinds of Rockbridge kids through partnerships. Collaborating has helped us reduce those obstacles for the benefit of those we serve. This month, an additional 200 children to experienced the joys of Boxerwood camp thanks to these partnerships.

Thanks to special federal funding, both Rockbridge County Public Schools and Buena Vista City Schools are able to provide summer enrichment programs at no cost for children attending specific high-need schools. The schools in turn contract with Boxerwood to create the camps, with the schools providing additional staffing, transportation for all campers, plus breakfast and lunch. Programa SOL, a W&L initiative, networked with its own partners to ensure the same for its campers. Thanks to these partnerships we have been able to serve kids this summer from Goshen to Glasgow, Raphine to Natural Bridge and many points in between. Thank you, Programa SOL, RCPS, BVCPS, and also Lake Robertson, Glen Maury Park, the City of Lexington (Jordans Point), Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, the James River Association (provision of canoes & kayaks & instructors) for your many contributions.
