Fall 2020: New Needs/New Programs

With our usual school programming set aside for now, Boxerwood is developing several new ways to help our community this challenging season.

New Program: Outdoor PALS (Play and Learning Season)

Boxerwood’s Play and Learning Season (PALS) is a cousin of summer camp, reimagined for pandemic times and needs. PALS is a  10-week, 2-day/week enrichment program at Boxerwood for children, ages 4 – 8. Children enroll for the entire series and explore Boxerworld as a small expedition group of twelve, led by two educators. Inspired by the “Forest School” movement, the 8:30 – 1 pm program is 100% outdoors, except for extreme weather. We hope to offer PALS four days a week, to accommodate two distinct groups of explorers, thus doubling the help to families. Help from the Community Foundation of Rockbridge, Bath, and Allegheny (CFBRA) has enabled us to offer need-based scholarships for PALS, in keeping with our goal to make this opportunity accessible for all. Help us spread the word. Applications are due August 24, 9 am, with PALS commencing week of Sept 8.

New Partnerships

Boxerwood is hosting a new, 5 -day/week elementary after school childcare program with our fellow non-profit, Woods Creek Montessori (WCM). WCM was no longer able to host this existing program at its site due to new covid-19 guidelines. Together we’ll serve 14 enrolled children from Waddell, 1:20 – 4:30 each day, starting Sept. 1. This program came fully enrolled, but Boxerwood is exploring some additional enrichment possibilities with with another childcare provider too: Rockbridge YMCA. Stay tuned!
