Meet the Directors

Our all-volunteer board of directors carry the ultimate responsibility for ensuring the Boxerwood ship sails. They approve plans, review the books, set the policies, run committees, and more. These activities enable Boxerwood to be successful.  Board service is itself earth stewardship, and this spring we welcome aboard three new Boxerwood board members.

Deb Price brings years of experience providing assistance and oversight for non-for-profit, faith-based, and government organizations. A special focus is operational, project and fiscal management. Also a long-time volunteer for youth-related activities, Deb relocated from Oregon with her husband in 2016. Among current activities, she holds a leadership position in the Rockbridge Area Master Gardener Association (RAMGA).  Handy, just in case: Deb has also trained as a disaster responder.

Kim Hodge has served as Director of Sustainability at Washington & Lee since 2014. A long-time Boxerwood friend and fan, Kim has been working in environmental fields for nearly twenty years, including service to state agencies, conservation non-profits, and academia. She holds a PhD in Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation from Virginia Tech. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family, which includes a Play Trail-eligible young son, Max.

Ryan Brink also has a strong Washington & Lee connection. He is a 2019 graduate as well as coordinator of Campus Kitchen, a program that works with schools and other partners to address food insecurity in the Rockbridge area. Trained as an artist (as well as an engineer), Ryan brings to the board a creative and collaborative mindset, also serving as secretary and volunteer coordinator for Lime Kiln Theater. May a board scrum never comes to this, but good to know Ryan also serves as the WLU rugby coach.

These new board members join existing members Olivia Almanza, Katrina Broughman, Jacob Bruck, Dave Bryer, Matt Crance, Peter Gruner, Chris Fang, Blake Shester, Tamara Teaff, and Craig Vinecombe. We also note with gratitude the leadership of board member Lindsay Grindstaff,  who has stepped up as board president following the untimely death of our friend Mike Yoemans in February. Thank you, Lindsay--and thank you one and all for putting your stewardship values into action: your efforts benefit us all.
