connect with nature

Dear Boxerwood friends,

For twenty years, Boxerwood has been promoting ecological well-being across our community. In midst of this challenging season, Boxerwood is carrying on with that commitment. Despite hardship to us, we are keeping the woodland garden open.  We know how connecting with nature is a mighty balm for anxious hearts.

Like many non-profits, we have been hit hard by unprecedented change. Loss of all spring revenue from school programs is significant. We have had to suspend activities for the foreseeable future as we plan our path forward. Despite the uncertainties, we dedicate ourselves to keeping the garden open. We are here for you. At this time, can you also be here for us? Maintenance and mortgage costs continue even in midst of a pandemic. For those who are able, we humbly ask for your ongoing financial support.

In the meantime, we invite you to explore Spring at Boxerwood.  The magnolias, cornelian cherry trees, and weeping cherries are brimming with blooms.  The tree swallows, bluebirds and wrens are already bickering over nest sites. The turtles are out. Come wander, listen, breathe fresh air, explore Boxerwood nooks and crannies. May your time immersed in the world of nature bring peace and joy.

When you visit, please promote the well-being of all by abiding by the following:

  • Respect social distance: enjoy the woods as a family or solo, but avoid congregating as groups
  • Keep dogs on leashes and pack out waste
  • Leave no trace: take any trash with you since staff ability to do so is limited
  • Refrain from smoking or vaping on the property

And a few updates as of 3/30/20:

  • The Garden itself is open, but the Lodge and Play Trail are both closed until further notice.  Per Gov. Northam’s recent directive we have now also closed access to the pavilions, related structures, and the outdoor porta-potty.
  • Our upcoming “Walk your Talk” series will be postponed until Fall.
  • New volunteer orientation will be postponed until further notice.
  • Most staff are working from home. Contact us by our personal work email or at info@boxerwood.org
  • Mulch loading and sales continue by appointment, ben@boxerwood.org

Thank you all for your continued support.
