Spring Series 2018: Recording Nature

Local pianist Jonathan Aidan has a new passion: solar-powered music. His love for nature and music have evolved into a creative collaboration of sound and sunlight. Jonathan also recently completed an album for yoga and all-purpose grooviness incorporating into each track live sounds from nature such as rushing water and vibrant wildlife vocalizations.

Hear Jonathan’s story about his musical transition to playing outside and listen to some tracks off his new album. Then, walk with him around the Garden and help record the unique melodies of Boxerwood’s flora and fauna, including frogs, birds, and if we’re lucky – owls!

Jonathan is a pianist, composer, organist, & teacher. Born in Vermont and raised in Michigan, he has a master’s degree in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan. He has composed several new works and has had them performed by many excellent musicians. He has been featured as a guest pianist, including at Washington and Lee University. A passionate improviser, Jonathan enjoys rekindling and formalizing his childhood love of invention.. Trained in organ performance, church music, and hymnology, he also serves as musical director and organist at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hot Springs, VA.
