COREworks Environmental Fellow

It’s true. In midst of a pandemic we’re working on an exciting new initiative and have a new colleague. Still in its planning stages, this project is called COREworks. As envisioned, COREworks is an educational program that promotes community learning and conservation action through a unique mechanism: a locally-operated carbon offset marketplace. The Boxerwood-run marketplace is the vehicle both for engaging others in climate conversations, and for funding those projects right here in Rockbridge. Stay tuned for more details.

Helping develop this project is our first COREworks Environmental Fellow, Rosalie Bull. A 2020 graduate of Washington and Lee University, Rose commenced her 9-month, part-time position in August. We were able to create this fellowship thanks to a visionary donation to Boxerwood last spring from students who led the WLU Mock Convention 2020 Sustainability Committee.

As COREworks Fellow, Rose is helping to bring this innovative idea into reality by conducting extensive research and fact-finding interviews, as well as by building partnerships with local stakeholders, including various entities affiliated with WLU. Her work has already been instrumental in moving this project forward. Of her new role, Rose has this to say:

“I’m incredibly happy to have landed in the Boxerwood world this year. Every member of the team brings such an inspiring lightness to the deep work of environmental stewardship. Working at a place like Boxerwood, and on a project like COREworks, has given me an opportunity to participate in real community nourishment—something I had been craving for a long time. The COREworks project keeps me on my toes, engaged and innovative, every day. Gratitude to all!”
