volunteer with boxerwood

If you love nature and care about protecting the environment, then make a difference by joining the Boxerwood community of volunteers!  Share your time, talent, and energy volunteering in our enchanting woodland setting.  Help expand our impact in the community and further our mission to educate and inspire people of all ages to become environmentally responsible stewards of the Earth.

Right now there are three main volunteer tracks (some activities, but not all, require physical dexterity):

  1. In the Community
  2. In the Garden
  3. In our Programs
IN THE COMMUNITY
Special Events

Help our community events run smoothly.  Assist with set up/clean up, parking cars, explaining membership, collecting donations, etc.  Typical events include our summer Music in the Garden series, fall Pumpkin Walk, and winter workshops.

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES

Kiosk Ambassadors (training required)

Looking for a fresh perspective on the Boxerwood garden? Like meeting new people? Ambassadors serve on weekends, greeting Boxerwood visitors and answering basic questions. You’ll introduce guests to favorite trees, point newcomers to garden features, and help families get excited about time outdoors.

The Play Trail

This extraordinary community gem is a well-known and often-visited place for children to use their imaginations and discover the joy of exploring the natural world. The Trail needs regular maintenance, particularly on weekends. Work with our PlayTrail Stewards Team.

Master Gardener Shadowing

Beginner gardeners shadow Master Gardeners who share skills and teach techniques for working among our extraordinary trees, shrubs, and native gems. Volunteers remove invasive plants, provide garden maintenance, plant native species, weed, and maintain paths and wildlife habitat. Current offerings are Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

Boxerwood Warriors

We occasionally need help with  facility needs and construction. Join our on-call warrior team who help as projects arise.

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES

Youth Education

Become an instructor or chaperone for our nature-based, hands-on educational programs that spark the curiosity of children of all ages.  Fall and spring programs (2-4 hours long, ending by 1pm) are held at Boxerwood and at other locations.  Staff-led instructional teams work with small groups of children using our thematic curriculum.  No prior nature-knowledge needed (we train), but you must have a love of children, learning, and the outdoors, as well as patience, flexibility and good humor.  Most team members volunteer one 9am-1pm shift per week, but we are flexible.
