Virginia Environmental Stewardship Award - "winner in the Educational Category - for outstanding contributions in the protection and enhancement of Virginia's natural resources - June 19, 2004 - on behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Virginia Petroleum Council"

Rockbridge Area Conservation Council 2005 Land Use Award "in recognition and appreciation of [Boxerwood's] vision and tireless efforts in the research, design, funding, and construction of N.E.W.T.S, the Nature-Emulating Waste Treatment System, a wastewater treatment system based on natural biological processes and for the inspirational incorporation of that design into Boxerwood's teaching mission creating a community model of innovative and affordable techniques for enhancing water quality and practicing responsible environmental stewardship"

Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the Valley Regional Office (DEQ-VRO) recognized Boxerwood for… “an amazing job planning educational field days consistent with the Virginia Standards of Learning, that are incredibly well organized and coordinated.” The letter concluded, “DEQ-VRO is excited to continue our support of Boxerwood’s commitment to educating the next generation about Virginia’s streams and rivers”
